The Ayurveda:
Ayurveda is a life saving science that was
derived from keen observation and study over hundreds of
years in India. Science of Ayurveda can be applied to any
living man to protect or restore his physical mental and
spiritual health. One could always relate the application
of Ayurveda from the inception of mankind.
Even though it
was used from olden times, any modern man could opt for an Ayurvedic treatment if the sickness is not in its worst
stage.
Human body is composed of three fundamental elements
called “Doshas”, “Dhatu”, “Malas”. A perfect body has
perfect balance . Human body and everything in it are
influenced by doshas. Any imbalance that is generated in
the body is best detected with the aid of physician, who
can advice as to how the imbalance can be corrected and
the state of body be brought back to original status.
Doshas, Dhatus, Malas each of them are equally important,
but doshas have a more dominant role in the human body as
everything their balance will correct the defects to the
other.
Kerala fairs are generally associated with it’s festivals.
These festivals are unique in its own ways and it would
not be incorrect to say they are innumerable in numbers
too. The charm and gaiety associated with these festivals
are renowned too. Some of the festivals one could name
which is celebrated with much pomp and show are: There are
three different types of dosha s, vata, pitta and kapha,
but they are all not equal in performance and prominence.
According to the dominance of each doshas every man is
categorized accordingly. Foof habits, life style and
everything can be adjusted according to our body type so
that we can resist disease and maintain perfect health.
To maintain a natural dynamic balance of the doshas it is
essential to make changes in the life style and food
habits, patient needs to cooperate Physically and Mentally
when once this is attained all sickness will leave the
body. An ayurvedic doctor helps to make a patient healthy
not treating the disease. Based on the signs and symptoms
we can foresee and illness and can find preventives to
keep away the illness or reduse the strength of it’s
seriousness. Change in climate also adds to causing
illness. Ayurveda can help maintain good health in all
seasons all through life.
Man’s life is effected by the environment in which he
exists which changes his health and status too. The things
that get effected are diet, habits, and in general
attitude to life. These in turn change with age and sex of
an individual. Ayurveda help to maintain natural
resistance to disease. Ayurveda has a separate treatment
to maintain youth and vitality and to recover lost health
in diseased conditions.
The main classifiacation of preventive cure is Rasayana
and Vajeekarana. These therapy helps to improve immune
system, and stamina. Basic aim of ayurveda is to build or
develop the strength of the person, which would help him
to lead a healthy and happy life.
‘Bala’ a factor mainly responsible to maintain full
vitality of life and to maintain balanced state of doshas.
Any imbalance leads to disease. Treatment is aimed at
restoring health by bringing about equilibrium through
establishing bala. Ayurveda is aimed at devising a
complete treatment that will improve the immune status.
Methods of Ayurvedic treatment are primarily three:
Anthaparimarjanam, Bahiparimarjanam, Sastrapranidhanam.
Ayurveda is focused on promotion of positive health and
prevention of disesse. The treatment prescribed is focused
on the whole body not the affected part alone.
Various types of treatment in
ayurveda: Panchakarmas, Therapeutic
Vomiting, puragation Cleansing enemas, Nasal application
of herbs, Rejuvanation, Diet and Dietetics, Yoga. Kerala
has some special treatments such as Pizhichil, Navarakizhi,
Dhara, Sirovasthi, Udvarthanam, Snehapanam, Kizhi,
Rejuvanation Vasthi, abhayangam, Nasyam, medicated steam
bath, general massage, Rejuvanation Massage etc.
Ayurveda can be defined in short as essential knowledge of
art and science of a living which man will need as long as
there is life on earth and not merely a collection of
drugs and remedies. |
