About Beypore Beach
An important name in the trade and maritime map of ancient Kerala, Beypore is particularly famous for its age old boat building industry. Dotted with silhouettes of fishing boats and a stone pathway jutting 2 km into the sea, Beypore gives a marine experience with a difference. Located at the mouth of the Chaliyar River 10 km south of Kozhikode, Beypore is a haven of tranquility spiced up with local traditions of which the boat building industry is also a part. The Khalasis the traditional boat builders at Beypore were famous as the manufacturer of Uru the boats used mainly by Arabs for trading overseas. The ancient Uru has an indigenous design that has been passed down through generations. Witnessing an Uru take shape at the expert hands of a Khalasi, is a truly unforgettable experience. The nearest airport to Beypore is the Calicut airport at Karipur, 23 km from Calicut city.
